About Avondale Heights Tennis Club

Proudly part of the Avondale Heights community for more than 50 years

Avondale Heights Tennis Club has been bringing people together through tennis for more than five decades. Located at Doyle Street Reserve in the heart of Avondale Heights, we’re a friendly, community-focused club where players of all ages and abilities are welcome.

From complete beginners picking up a racquet for the first time to experienced competition players, there’s a place for everyone at AHTC. We offer social and competitive tennis, coaching and plenty of opportunities to get on court, whether you want to improve your game, meet new people or simply enjoy a hit.

Our club has grown considerably since its early days. The first four En Tout Cas courts opened in 1975, accompanied by a humble tin shed that served as the original clubroom. In 1978, members rolled up their sleeves and built the clubhouse themselves – an early example of the volunteer spirit that continues to be at the heart of AHTC today.

As membership grew, Courts 5 and 6 were added in 1985, with court lighting following in 1989. Courts 5 and 6 were converted to Plexipave in 1990, while Courts 1 and 2 were upgraded to synthetic clay in 2006, followed by Courts 3 and 4 in 2008.

The club has continued to invest in its facilities, with more recent improvements including resurfacing of Courts 3 and 4, upgraded drainage to Courts 1–4 and new fencing. In 2025, new LED lighting was completed on Courts 1–4, providing a fantastic environment for evening tennis and helping prepare the club for the next generation of players.

Today, AHTC features six courts – four synthetic clay and two Plexipave – along with our clubhouse and modern court lighting.

While plenty has changed over the years, what makes AHTC special hasn’t. We remain a club built around tennis, community and volunteers – and we’re always ready to welcome new faces.
